Dutch violinist Liza Ferschtman is accompanied by the Het Gelders Orkest under Kees Bakels on this album featuring Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. Ferschtman says over her career she had gradually let go of her preconceived notions about the work and more clearly started to imagine the piece in her own voice, leading to this recording. "Over the years I got to know so much more music by Mendelssohn, from the inside out and I felt the language become more fully my own. When working with Kees Bakels on it a couple of years ago things started to really fall into place ... I really was all of a sudden struck by a distinct feeling that I can only describe as falling in love all over again with this magical piece. Certain details in the score seemed to appear completely new to me and the idea of approaching the work with the same collaborative energy as in chamber music made me experience it completely afresh ... to feel this way about such a familiar piece was revelatory and I knew I wanted to share these discoveries, if you like, with many more people." - Liza Ferschtman

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
