The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and Paul Mann continue their rediscovery of the music of Edinburgh composer Charles O’Brien with this third volume of orchestral works, all premiere recordings. The explicitly Scottish Ellangowan Overture contrasts splendid Caledonian vistas with some wonderfully catchy tunes, while in the two suites O’Brien skilfully combines a naturally symphonic voice with an unexpected sense of fun.
