- The WholeNote
Appearing on this record with various groups from the Oberlin Conservatory, bassoonist George Sakakeeny performs several works by contemporary American composers. The title piece, Libby Larsen’s Full Moon in the City, as well as Peter Schickele’s Bassoon Concerto, were written especially for Sakakeeny. In addition to these works, Augusta Read Thomas’s Bassoon Concertino is a particular highlight of this release, with each movement being inspired by paintings by Paul Klee, Kandinsky, and Joan Miro respectively.
