Digital Booklet
|
"the entire package is unusually interesting and uniformly desirable, which is unusual given the wide-ranging variety of music on offer. Sonically this is as fine as anything BIS has given us from Lahti, which is to say that it's on par with the best the industry has to offer."
- ClassicsToday.com
"Overall this is a very attractive collection made up entirely of rarities. While the true esoterica (Overture and Cantata) are not earth-shattering events they are welcome novelties and we must hope for more... and soon."
- MusicWeb International
This collection of works by Sibeleius, as performed by Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä and his Lahti Orchestra, takes the listener on a musical journey through a folkloric history of Finland. Featuring the Jubilate Choir, a highlight of this release is the 'tone poem with words' entitled Snöfrid, a setting of a ballad-like poem by Viktor Rydberg, which is paired with other little-known gems such as Oma Maa (My Country).
