In his later years often described as the grand old man of Finnish modernism, Erik Bergman was among the first in Finland to use compositional methods such as 12-tone technique, serial music, choral Sprechgesang and aleatory counterpoint. His speciality was choral music and a large part of his huge production involves a choir in some form. This album focuses primarily on his pieces for mixed choir that have not been previously recorded, providing a broad picture of his production for the medium over a period of more than 60 years. Born to a Swedish-speaking family, many of Bergman’s settings were of poems in Swedish, but he was a true internationalist and this collection also includes works with texts in Italian, Norwegian, English, German and, naturally, Finnish. These are performed by the Helsinki Chamber Choir, Finland’s only professional chamber choir, under its artistic director Nils Schweckendiek.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
