Award-winning Canadian group ARC Ensemble have become known for their tireless efforts to bring the work of composers who were persecuted by the Nazi regime to a wider audience. This release focuses on the chamber music of Polish-Jewish composer Szymon Laks, who led the orchestra of prisoners at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Often overshadowed by the impact of his account of his experiences at Auschwitz, Laks's music is worthy of attention in its own right, making this world premiere recording a welcome release.
