Digital Booklet
"... (serves) easily to delight the ear ... to listen to but a few bars of any of the movements from these three enticing suites is to hear tuneful invention and fascinating counterposition." - MusicWeb International "The performances are exemplary, the mood benign and unhurried to match the music and every player of every unusually featured instrument calmly taking their opportunity to make a colourful contribution while remaining firmly part of the team." - Gramophone "The beauty of this recording is in the performances ... one of the delights is that you can actually imagine dancers performing the gavottes, sarabandes, menuets and bourrées ... Ondine has provided a first-rate sonic environment, from a Finnish church, that captures the individual instrumental timbres and the unique colour world of the various combinations of Baroque horn and chalumeau and viola d’amore and strings. Strongly recommended." - ClassicsToday.com The Finnish Baroque Orchestra presents these orchestral works by prolific composer Christoph Graupner, known for his exceptional command of melody and harmony, which do not really resemble those of any of his contemporaries. The Baroque Orchestra faithfully performs these works using several authentic period instruments that Graupner favoured; rare solo instruments such as the flûte d'amour, pitched a third lower than the normal transverse flute, as well as the viola d'amore, an instrument roughly the same size and shape as a viola but with resonating free strings in addition to the strings played with the bow. Combining the traverso and hunting horn in the same concerto, or the viola d'amore and the chalumeau, was extremely exceptional for the period.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
