The 18th- and early 19th-century virtuoso guitarist Fernando Sor was a prolific composer for his own instrument as well as in numerous others genres, including opera and dance pieces. One genre for which he is less known is that of art song, a deficiency which this release from soprano Nerea Berraondo and guitarist Eva Beneke happily rectifies. In addition to a sensitive arrangement of arias from Mozart's Don Giovanni, this album includes Sor's 12 Seguidillas which explore the music of the composer's homeland of Spain, as well as songs in Italian and French.
