The String Quartet No. 9 in C Major is one of three composed for Count Rasumovsky in 1808 and see Beethoven moving further away from generic conventions, while the String Quartet No. 14 in C Sharp Minor—instantly recognizable with its fugal opening—takes this even further by, among other features, including no less than seven movements.
