Singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat teams up with hit-making producer Babyface for this release, displaying a stylistic departure for Caillat triggered by negative feedback from her record company. The first batch of songs she wrote was rejected by her record label that was expecting, or maybe hoping, for a more polished, commercial sound. The first single, the empowering song Try, reflects her frustration at being told her music wasn't good enough.
"The reason I wanted to do the EP is because I think everyone's attention spans are very short. I think 12 songs is too much to listen to all at once. When I buy a record, I get to the fifth song and then I don't get to really hear the rest of the record. People can listen to the first five songs, fall in love with them, get to know them and then a few months later, have the rest of the record available for download."
