Harold Land (1928-2001) was one of the major hard-bop stylists to be based on the West Coast. His tenor playing was always underrated but an asset on the many sessions on which he appeared. Land had the opportunity to lead albums for Contemporary, HiFiJazz and Jazzland during 1958-1960. Harold in the Land of Jazz, a quintet outing with trumpeter Rolf Ericson and pianist Carl Perkins, is notable for introducing Perkins’s “Grooveyard” and for showing that not all West Coast jazz was of the cool vareity. The Fox is on the same level, teaming Land with trumpeter Dupree Bolton and pianist Elmo Hope, performing songs by Hope and Land. Harold Land, who was influenced by John Coltrane in later years, remained a major force in the Los Angeles area up until the time of his 2001 death.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
