"Dance forms and colours abound in the tracks ... the tango, waltz and Charleston … and there is colour! Blue, pink, silver, burnished silver and black."
- SoundsLikeSydney

"The performance throughout is exemplary and the recording nicely captures this ... the four players have responded well to the challenge of this highly varied material and have created an important document. This is a highly enjoyable collection from an important composer. Highly recommended!"
- The Music Trust

This is the first volume in a series of the complete string quartets of Elena Kats-Chernin, possibly Australia’s most popular composer. As this volume demonstrates, her tuneful music combines lightheartedness with melancholy, blended with elements of cabaret, tango, ragtime, klezmer and Bach. The Acacia Quartet met Kats-Chernin in 2011 and were inspired to learn all of her quartet music, rehearse it extensively with her and perform it in concerts, then record it under her supervision. This is an association for the long term: as Kats-Chernin composes more string quartets, the Acacia Quartet will learn, perform and record them.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
