"Four Stars ... these are melodic and occasionally rocking recordings ... the sound is familiar and some of the sidemen are top-notch ... this is hard bop in its infancy, the best of which feature Blakey as the propulsive backbeat ... not a bad introduction to early Miles, just a short time before he became (arguably) the most famous jazz trumpeter of all time. " - All About Jazz The second of Miles Davis's three recording sessions for Blue Note in the mid-1950s, this album features an outstanding rhythm section (Art Blakey on drums and Percy Heath on bass), filling out the horns with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath and trombonist J.J. Johnson. The songs are drawn from a wide range of talented composers, including Bud Powell and Dizzy Gillespie along with Davis originals, swinging effortlessly between Afro-Cuban rhythms, blues and bebop.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
