For this recording, conductor Edward Higginbottom uses Haydn's original primary coloured orchestration for strings and trumpets, bringing to the performance an arguably more characterful sound world than when the woodwinds are employed (after the first edition by Breitkopf and Härtel). In addition, by sourcing the solo voices from the Choir, the vocal ensemble becomes fully cohesive with the chorus, fully celebrating the capacity of the Choir of New College Oxford to scale this particular summit.
