"... (Carpenter) phrases with great skill and freights his playing with intelligence and sensitivity ..."
- MusicWeb International
"The autumnal mood transfers effectively to an all-string ensemble; the playing is both fluent and sensitively shaped ... Carpenter's blend of mellowness and deftness is colourfully applied to Robert Mann's occasionally Bartokian Dreamtime."
- Gramophone
American violist David Aaron Carpenter has been called "stunningly talented" by The New Yorker, a reputation he reinforces on Dreamtime, featuring the titular solo viola work by Robert Mann of the Juillard String Quartet. This project was initiated following an invitation Carpenter received from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra to perform a chamber music concert with some of their soloists. Brahms's Clarinet Quintet and Frank Bridge's Lament on this album are live recordings from that concert in February 2013.
"Making music with these incredible musicians has been one of the inspiring highlights of my career."
