Brian Wilson has stated in interviews that the mellow, laid-back Friends, released in 1968, remains his favourite Beach Boys album, although it was largely overlooked in the US. Often considered a showcase for the emergence of Dennis Wilson as a writer and singer, the album and title track single did better on charts in the UK than in the US.
