Leif Segerstam conducts the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra on this large selection of orchestral works by Finnish composer Toivo Kuula, completed by the time of his premature death. Kuula, a private pupil of Sibelius, used elements he collected from the folk music of his home region in Northern Finland but was also influenced by the new trends present in European art music. The two suites featured here belong to Kuula's most popular orchestral works, combining melodies with Impressionistic nuances. The programme also includes the Festive March and the Prelude & Fugue.
