Chinese pianist Lang Lang and the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev present this live album featuring Rachmaninov's familiar and beloved works, including the Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the most popular pieces in the entire repertoire. Recorded at a concert in Finland during the summer of 2004, the pianist drew great inspiration working with a Russian orchestra and conductor. He says he was enthusiastic both about the relationship he established with Gergiev and about the playing of the orchestra, which he describes as "really Russian: brilliant, powerful and exciting."
