- The Absolute Sound
This release combines the two volumes of Simpler Times previously released in 2013 by the Sophisticated Lady Jazz Quartet; their homage to the great tradition of American jazz. With most of their repertoire written by members of the quartet, Simpler Times celebrates these original tunes, especially those by bassist Gary Wicks. Unlike most contemporary jazz recordings, which are carefully and surgically perfected in post production, Simpler Times stays true to its title and sounds fresh and raw. These tracks, some of which are first takes, were recorded live to tape without any editing or digital magic.
