"... a unique varietal of dance-synth pop music ... a collection with a retro tinge and penchant for a melancholic electro edge."
- Entertainment Weekly

"... a brilliantly eclectic offering ranging from dancefloor-ready, throbbing beats to Caribou-style sampling to the more familiar, Vampire Weekend-ish left field, preppy pop ... it's an impressively curious and diverse listen and one that's sure to tide you over until they get the old gang back together ..."
- NME

The Names is the debut full-length solo release from Vampire Weekend’s bassist Chris Baio, motivated by his increasing restlessness between tours and desire to explore his own individual voice away from the band. Inspired by the release of two earlier solo EPs, Baio wanted to return, in part, to the electronic music he had enjoyed while DJing at college. What is striking about this solo collection is its marked difference to his work with Vampire Weekend. Baio says the album includes “straight-up love songs” as well as songs that nod to Dostoyevsky, Kurosawa, Iggy Pop and the Cars; there’s a track Baio describes as “a classic rock band arrangement, throwback pop song” and a “tribute to David Bowie and Bryan Ferry."

"What I wanted to feel with this record was that it’s not a band record, it’s not a solo record and it’s not a producer record, but a combination of all three. I wanted to create a space where almost anything could happen."
- Chris Baio

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
