It has long been a tradition of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on New Year's Day to present a programme consisting of the lively and at the same time nostalgic music from the Johann Strauss family and its contemporaries. These concerts not only delight the audiences lucky enough to be there in person in Vienna, but also enjoy great international popularity through the worldwide television broadcast, which now reaches over 90 countries. The conductor who started the annual tradition in 1939 and truly founded the Strauss tradition of the Vienna Philharmonic is Clemens Krauss, who will remain among the foremost champions of this music. The recordings on this double album were made in the early 1950s and showcase the unique connection Krauss had with the orchestra, the composers and the repertoire.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
