This third and last volume of the complete piano works of Jan Hugo Voříšek from Biljana Urban is devoted to his 12 Rhapsodies, which extend the form of the scherzo in a lyrical vein suggestive of Brahms. Voříšek, who earned the nickname "the prodigy from Prague," almost immediately won the approval and admiration of Beethoven when he arrived in Vienna at the age of 22. His music foreshadows Schubert, Chopin and Schumann but he was so individualistic a composer that he resists easy categorization either as a Classicist or a Romantic.
