"... not only what might be his own greatest album but one of the finest contributions to the jazz organ canon ... a tour de force ... just when you think you’ve heard everything that organ jazz has to offer, Dr. Lonnie Smith evolves." - JazzTimes.com "Four Stars ... a real humdinger. Everything we've come to expect from him, included the unexpected, is here. The album is populated with raunchy riffs, greasy grooves, soulful sermons, tidal organ shifts, moody statements, hard-hitting solos and punchy interjections ... he returns (to Blue Note) as a sagacious elder. The wisdom he's gained in the intervening years is parcelled out in his every gesture, flourish and note. Evolution is but a single album, yet it speaks to a lifetime of music making from one of our most treasured organists." - All About Jazz Evolution is the first Blue Note album from legendary organist Dr. Lonnie Smith in 45 years, marking a return to the label where he made a name for himself in the late 1960s as a sideman and leader. Special guests on the highly-praised album include pianist Robert Glasper and saxophonist Joe Lovano, whose own recording debut was as a sideman in Smith’s band in 1975. Several of the songs on Evolution feature two drummers, Johnathan Blake and Joe Dyson, who add layers of rhythm to the material.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
