Digital Booklet
"Five Stars ... perfectly reliable as introductions to both works and are played with proper gusto ... (these) versions from David Lloyd-Jones more vividly characterized, while his recording has greater clarity and is better balanced, bringing out the subtleties of Dyson’s counterpoint more effectively." - BBC Music Magazine "... explorers of post-romantic tonal symphonies are going to find plenty to interest them in Dyson’s ... Lloyd-Jones sounds so good and the Bournemouth Orchestra so rich-toned, that I find it difficult to imagine any alternative being worth the extra money ... Lloyd-Jones’s credentials as a Dyson interpreter emerged reinforced. In sound, performance and presentation, this disc feels like a quality product." - MusicWeb International David Lloyd-Jones and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra have been lavishly praised for this 2005 release, dedicated to two major works by Sir George Dyson. First performed in 1938, his Symphony had to wait until the 1990s to achieve the recognition it deserves as one of the finest 20th British symphonies. Although the symphony opens and closes in a mood of pageantry from the world of his choral masterpiece The Canterbury Pilgrims, it is also a work of troubled times and the distant rumble of war. Passages of enigmatic beauty and icy landscapes alternate with mock-courtly dance music and brilliant orchestral effects reminiscent of Sibelius, Borodin and Rimsky-Korsakov.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
