"Tradition and innovation combine in flamenco style ... inspired, impassioned creations ... rhythms and harmonies take unexpected twists and turns ... one of the biggest and most enjoyable of those twists is Montón’s beautiful, flamenco-inflected arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Air ... throughout, Montón’s musical invention is matched by an enviable technique and sense of drama."
- Limelight
This solo project from Catalan guitarist José Luis Montón distills the melodic subtleties, rhythmic vitality and emotional power of flamenco, making connections as well to classical tradition. The resourceful Montón builds upon the template, energy and emotional intensity of flamenco in the creation of his own pieces, rooted in history and at the same time reaching toward new destinations. The music also draws from other resources including classical and Baroque, specifically acknowledged with the J.S. Bach-inspired Air.
"Flamenco is very beautiful in itself and I am deeply grateful for the inspiration it has given me throughout my career and my personal struggle to find myself through music. I owe a special debt of gratitude to all the great masters of flamenco guitar that have enriched so much its language, introducing new characters in the alphabet of flamenco."
- José Luis Montón
