The Musings Of Miles, issued in 1955, was Davis's first 12" LP and carries great historical significance as it paved the way for the formation of Davis's first great quintet. This album was Davis's first session with Red Garland on piano and drummer Philly Joe Jones; up to that point he had recruited "all star" studio musicians. Within months John Coltrane and Paul Chambers would come aboard to help form the first in a series of Davis's great groups. The Musings Of Miles includes Davis's interpretation of the oft-covered Dizzy Gillespie jazz classic A Night In Tunisia.
