Digital Booklet
"The album goes through many moods ... alternating spirited dances that melt into a melodic and whimsical group play to the breathtaking climax of the seventh passage ... there are also exquisitely tender moments ... its intellectual and emotional impact lasts long after the disc has stopped spinning." - All About Jazz "Bjørnstad has chosen his players with the same care that Antonioni chose his actors ... they all have highly personal and fully developed sound characters of their own and in combination one is almost overwhelmed by the richness of the timbral mix ... marvellous music and a marvellous movie for the ears." - TheJazzBreakfast.com "... shimmering, languorous ... unfolds like a film ... the music, rich with texture and emotion, seems written with these musicians in mind ... cannot be categorized purely as jazz; it weaves strands of chamber music, postmodern classical and Scandinavian folk into the so-called ECM sound ... a wondrous and devastating work of art with a narrative sweep that needs no words or images to tell its tale." - JazzTimes.com Commissioned by the Molde International Jazz Festival and recorded live at the Norwegian festival in 2010, La notte is a salute to Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni, a formative influence for pianist Ketil Bjørnstad. The album can be considered "the soundtrack to an inner film" in which Antonioni’s images and atmospheres are translated and transformed through personal moods and memories. Joining Bjørnstad for the live performance is a special Norwegian-Danish-German-British band of musicians, old and new friends closely associated with ECM. The concert was rapturously received by the media and described as an “absolutely stunning performance” by All About Jazz. "At the same time that I discovered what jazz could be, after listening to Miles Davis In A Silent Way, I also saw the films by Godard, Bresson and Antonioni. Perhaps it was the slow, rhythmic authority in the films by Michelangelo Antonioni that made me think of music ... as long as visual art creates music in our minds and music creates pictures and visual expressions with the same intensity, the two are deeply and profoundly interdependent." - Ketil Bjørnstad

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
