The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and conductor Paul Mann continue their exploration of the music of Edinburgh composer Charles O’Brien on this second volume of three devoted to his complete orchestral works. Two expansive "concert overtures" contrast with two charming miniatures from O’Brien’s youth and a colourful evocation of Scottish life, in a suite consisting of a tone poem, an heroic elegy and a dancing finale. The Liepāja Symphony is the oldest symphonic ensemble in the Baltic states and boasts the title of national orchestra of Latvia.
