Digital Booklet
Swedish pianist Carl Petersson has earned a reputation for embracing new and unknown repertoire by composers such as Lars Bisgaard, who is featured on this recording of contemporary Danish music, almost entirely world premieres. Bisgaard is paired with Finn Lykkebo and Per Nørgård, the latter regarded as one of the most important of contemporary Danish composers. His impressive early piano works, foreshadowing significant elements of his mature style, have never before been recorded. These pieces include the youthfully joyous and bravura Toccata and the symphonic-scaled Sonate, influenced by Sibelius and Holmboe. Lykkebo's atonal Tableaux are poetic pearls of precision and economy, while the deeply symbolic and challenging Stadier and other works represent Bisgaard’s complete piano music. "This album was a challenging journey into unknown territory. But it was also a journey which gave me a new perspective on Scandinavian music in general and on Danish music in particular. Nørgård’s early sonata is a wonderful little piece and the Toccata a fun and humorous presentation of different piano techniques. Lykkebo’s Tableaux are lovingly crafted into very well balanced, small musical paintings of emotions, sounds and scents. And it is impossible not to be affected by Lars Bisgaard’s imposing Stadier. The disc ends with two bonbons filled with delight and beauty and I am honoured that Walking is dedicated to me." - Carl Petersson

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
