"... a cut above the usual, a young super virtuoso, with musical sensitivity and an appreciation of style to go with the thunder and lightning."
- The New York Times
Russian pianist Gleb Ivanov, a protégé of Mstislav Rostropovich, remains utterly true to the traditions of the Russian school of piano playing, drawing both inspiration and virtuosic example from the world’s greatest masters of the keyboard: legendary artists like Horowitz, Rachmaninoff, Gilels and others. Aside from its stunning virtuosity, Ivanov's playing is distinguished by the kind of emotional intensity and interpretive electricity that only exceptional technique can reveal. He treats the piano primarily as a vocal instrument that must project “singing” melodic lines, conveying deep feeling as only the human voice can. His technical and interpretive qualities are reflected in the choice of repertoire, ranging from lovely, cantabile pieces by Schubert through paragons of pensive delicacy by Chopin to ultra-virtuosic transcriptions by Liszt and others.
