Konstantin Romanovich Eiges, from eastern Ukraine, studied both medicine and music in Moscow but soon became known for his outstanding compositions and his talent as a pianist. His music bears the impress of his teacher Taneyev and has points in common with his friends Medtner and Rachmaninov, but on this first recording of his piano music, Jonathan Powell reveals a figure who deserves to be remembered in his own right.
