Digital Booklet
"Editor's Choice. Wang and Kavakos give consistently outstanding performances." - Gramophone "Kavakos opts for a subtle use of vibrato and a relatively limited dynamic range. His sweet tone is matched by Wang ..." - BBC Music Magazine "Kavakos and Wang have been waiting for this one. Our principals work up a steady, momentous heat, often galloping and throbbing in potent unison. This music resounds with virile desire ..." - Audiophile Audition "Kavakos and Wang clearly understand what Brahms was about in this work ... quite magnificient ... Wang is superb and Kavakos is violinistically impeccable, sustaining Brahms's lines perfectly with every note dead in tune ... a great performance." - International Record Review Grammy Award nominee and virtuoso violinist Leonidas Kavakos teams up with Yuja Wang, a former Gramophone Young Artist of the Year on this 2014 release of Brahms's violin sonatas. When she first joined Kavakos to play these sonatas live in Switzerland in the summer of 2013, it became obvious to the capacity audiences that there was special relationship between these two incredible artists. Kavakos and Wang became close recital partners and toured Italy together with the Brahms sonatas in late 2013. The album is opened by the feisty Scherzo from the F-A-E Sonata, which Brahms contributed to a composite sonata (along with his friends Schumann and Dietrich). The three violin sonatas which follow were written for Brahms’s muse in all matters violin, Joseph Joachim, who also gave the premiere of the Violin Concerto and contributed its cadenzas. The album closes with the instantly recognizable Wiegenlied (Lullaby).

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
