Digital Booklet
"Four Stars ... supreme in atmospheric pianissimos ... it's typical of the thoughtful Oramo, too, that he chooses to fill the rest of the disc with tender, veiled string elegies to complement (the symphony) ..." - BBC Music Magazine "Recording of the Year ... a thrilling performance of this vital British symphony, strongly propelled with plenty of swagger but its quieter, more introspective moments are heartfelt too. A very interesting viewpoint of this work by another non-British orchestra." - MusicWeb International Conductor Sakari Oramo presents works by Edward Elgar on this 2013 recording, leading the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra on the darkly hued, powerful Second Symphony and two companion pieces. Oramo is a well known advocate of Elgar’s music, in particular the composer's orchestrations, which breathe, reflect and ripple, transporting the music in majestic waves unlike anybody else’s, according to Oramo. Elgar applied his technique as precisely as Richard Strauss, but also allowed himself to be carried away, to feel every colour and shade. Oramo’s commitment to Elgar has been rewarded by a medal from the British Elgar Society and his interpretations have met with great acclaim in the composer’s own country.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
