Aleksandra Vrebalov’s The Sea Ranch Songs was commissioned for the Kronos Quartet by the community of The Sea Ranch in celebration of the California retreat’s 50th birthday. Vrebalov’s sumptuous music does a magnificent job of connecting with the nature, spirit and architecture of the magical landscape and features rarely documented environmental sounds from the Northern California coastal community. For more than 40 years, the Kronos Quartet has pursued a singular artistic vision, combining a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually reimagine the string quartet experience. In the process, Kronos has become one of the most celebrated and influential groups of our time, with thousands of concerts and more than 50 recordings to its credit.
