Middle Waters is the result of a journey, of the distance and of the re-encounter of two artists separated by an ocean: musician, producer and sound designer Carlos Metta from Mexico City and Tal Engel, a poet and composer from Tel Aviv. After meeting each other briefly and years of keeping in touch, sending each other their lyrics and collaborating from a distance, they received a fellowship that allowed Engel to travel to Mexico to record with Metta. The resulting Kids Play With Monuments explores intimacy, memory, love and the limitations of being, capturing the joint search for the demystification and comprehension of the great monuments on which the world stands. The album was produced by Metta at night in his basement, surrounded by the vibrations of Mexico City. They duo used instruments including classic guitar, jarana, paper and wood percussion, field recordings and vinyl extracts to create their minimalistic and intimate songs.
