Clocking in at over 80 minutes long and requiring 141 pages of score, Ronald Stevenson’s powerful Passacaglia on DSCH was long claimed as the biggest single stretch of music ever written for piano, a world tour of styles and a singleminded exploration of its generating motif. Rising star British pianist James Willshire has the technique and vaulting ambition to match both the work's grandeur and its immense wealth of detail. Among the companion pieces filling up the second disc in this set are several world premieres.
