Soul Mates serves as a reminder that the saxophone is very much a symphony orchestra instrument, brought to fame by Ravel’s Boléro and Bizet’s Arlésienne. Together with pianist Virginie Falquet, saxophone player Laurent Estoppey formed the enigmatically-named Duo ST15 in 2005, aiming to present a repertoire of works written for them: the Swiss duo plays commissions, seeking out and discovering emerging composing talent.
