Grammy Nomination - Best Rap Album, 2015
Grammy Nomination - Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, 2015 - Blak Majik (with Jhené Aiko)
"... these vital, relevant tracks remind how good Common can be when he’s focused."
- The Boston Globe
"The rapping is muscular, self-assured and occasionally even startling, as in the offbeat accents during a stretch of Hustle Harder."
- The New York Times
"... Common's verbose verses dovetailing nicely with productions that are at times more like techno than hip-hop ... Common has crafted one of the best hip-hop albums of the year so far."
- The Guardian
Nobody's Smiling, the 2014 release from two-time Grammy-winning rapper and actor Common, is a critical look at his troubled hometown of Chicago and the violence and high crime rate ripping the city apart. He says he created the album with the purpose of giving back to his city and to the culture of hip-hop. The album marks a creative reunion between Common and his longtime friend and collaborator No I.D., producer of Common's first three albums in the 1990s. On Nobody's Smiling Common surrounds himself with young up-and-coming rappers and R&B artists such as Lil Herb and Dreezy from Chicago as well as Vince Staples from Long Beach, California.
