"... (McFarlane and Rosenfeld) join forces on this splendid recording of many different styles of early music ... it is a gentle, delightful excursion into the past. Some of the performances are of an improvised nature and of course all are impeccably played."
- ClassicalCDReview.com
"... Rosenfeld is a very good performer ... her phrasing and ornamentation are natural and idiomatic ... McFarlane offers subtle and effective accompaniments to the Baroque pieces ... the recording engineer, Daniel Shores, is to be commended for his sensitivity."
- American Record Guide
Grammy-nominated lutenist Ronn McFarlane is joined by his fellow Baltimore Consort alumna, flutist Mindy Rosenfeld, on 2013's Nine Notes that Shook the World, a collection of Renaissance, Baroque and Classical pieces. McFarlane strives to bring the lute, the most popular instrument of the Renaissance, into today’s musical mainstream and make it accessible to a wider audience.
"This recording is a gathering of some of our favourites, a musical feast. A wide cross section of styles, evocative and expressive of the variety and intensity of human feelings, from sparky, joyful fun to deeper meditative inner reflection, these timeless tunes from past centuries still touch us in ways words cannot, stirring our life energy.”
- Mindy Rosenfeld
