At this chaotic moment, the album Choro Negro: Cristovão Bastos and Mauro Senise play Paulinho da Viola contrasts the almost silent sound of the great master of Portela. Rimbaud already warned, “out of delicacy, I lost my life", in a social context that he called “the time of the assassins”. For it is armed with softness and delicacy, affronting the brutality of men and of the streets, that Paulinho da Viola weaves in the dead of night dreams that touch the soul and fingers of Cristovão and Mauro. An antidote for today's poisonous days, a manna for our deepest longings.
Ana Luisa Marinho talks about the genesis of this album: “For a long time Cristovão and Mauro wanted to form a duo. Cristovão has been arranging and participating in Mauro's CDs, who in turn has acted in some of Cristovão's albums. The two are very good friends and this project is the result of that friendship and mutual admiration. The catalyst was Paulinho da Viola. Mauro has always admired his melodies, so modern and elegant. Cristovão is Paulinho's partner and compadre, who turns 80 in November. So this tribute makes perfect sense.”
