The Saint Thomas Choir of Men & Boys and conductor John Scott present two beautifully crafted 20th-century requiems on this release for Resonus. Pairing English composer Herbert Howells's Requiem with French composer Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, Op. 9 displays the contrasts in this genre as it appeared on either side of the Channel, making for a rich and exquisitely performed collection of sacred vocal music, ameliorated further by the inclusion of Ralph Vaughan Williams's Valiant-for-truth which draws on elements of both French and English sacred music.
