Viol consort L’Achéron present Gibbons: Fancies for the Viols, a collection of fantasias by the Elizabethan composer Orlando Gibbons. The son of a town wait, Gibbons became one of the most prolific composers of this period, writing extensively for the viol during that instrument's heyday in the early 17th century: this release sees the L’Achéron perform 18 of his pieces, including pavans and galliards as well as the favoured fantasias.
