Digital Booklet
|
“[Tamestit] is his usual communicative self, and the sound he draws from the 1672 ‘Mahler’ Stradivari can hold its own in comparison with any diva past or present... Tamestit negotiates the wide-ranging arpeggios and multiple-stopping of no.15 with the greatest aplomb.”
- Carlos María Solare, The Strad
In his first recording for harmonia mundi, French violist Antoine Tamestit is joined by pianist Cédric Tiberghien for a rich exploration of 19th-century French repertoire for the viola. Emphasizing the instrument's songful sound, these consumate artists bring to light some delicious works by composers such as Henri Vieuxtemps and Casimir Ney alongside arrangements of arias by Bellini and Donizetti.
