[in]verse is a special project of Fall for Dance North, mixing classical music curated and performed by acclaimed Canadian cellist Arlen Hlusko, with poetry recited by Fall for Dance North's community of dancemakers from around the world. [in]verse was born from a mutual desire to find meaningful ways to share, create, and connect with others during times of physical isolation, and represents months of dreaming, experimenting, listening, and creating in new and unconventional ways.
Originally released as a limited streaming project as part of FFDN's 6th annual festival in September 2020, this expanded 26-track studio album features additional collaborations with Francis Carr (cello), Vicky Chow (piano), and Lun Li (violin) alongside six world premiere compositions and four new readings by international dance artists Mthuthuzeli November (South Africa), Shantala Shivalingappa (India), Sean Dorsey (USA) and Esie Mensah together with Quentin Vercertty (Canada).
“Music, dance and poetry are kindred artforms. They allow us to commune with the human experience in intimate and extraordinary ways. Inspired by the readings of Pablo Neruda’s poetry on the Academy Award winning soundtrack of the 1994 film, Il Postino, we invited dancemakers from around the world to recite a favorite poem and collaborate with Arlen on the musical selections for [in]verse. This gorgeous album is a testament to the fact that, in times of great adversity, great collaborations can be born”.
- Ilter Ibrahimof (FFDN Artist Director)
