Known primarily for his orchestral works, this collection of two song cycles—Binyon Songs and The Borders of Sleep—alongside the individual song The Phoenix displays a new side to the composer, drawing on poetry by the First World War writers Laurence Binyon and Edward Thomas. These moving contemporary songs are given top-notch performances by renowned baritone Roderick Williams with soprano Eve Daniell and pianist Simon Lepper.
