A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey is the follow up to Leyla McCalla’s critically acclaimed Vari-Colored Songs. This beautiful twelve-track album is a musical exploration of two cultural identities, one sprouted in the United States and the other firmly planted in Haiti. McCalla alternates between cello, tenor banjo and guitar, and sings in English, French and Haitian Creole. Whether she tackles fresh versions of traditional pieces or original compositions, there is a timelessness and perceptivity to all of her songs, which ask big questions and demand big answers.
