Violinist and fiddler Shane Lestideau explores the Baillie Collection: Scottish fiddle music played in Australia in the early 1900s. This is the music that brightened the days of Australian communities before the advent of recordings, blending virtuosic showmanship with beloved Scottish tunes. Played on a fiddle that had been part of the Baillie family for generations, this album recreates the sound world of the travelling entertainer and the delight of those who came to hear it.
Shane Lestideau is the leader and founder of Evergreen Ensemble, known for its imaginative programs bringing together the best of Australia's early music talent and folk icons, Evergreen Ensemble weaves stories back through time, rediscovering the sounds of folk melodies performed on period instruments. For this album Shane is joined by acclaimed piano virtuoso and music scholar Donald Nicolson, who brings his in-depth knowledge of early keyboard styles and techniques to this unique and joyous recording.
