More direct than À la Ô Terre, its predecessor launched under Castle Face Records in 2020, Électrons Libres du Québec is the second opus of Population II. On this new album, produced by Emmanuel Éthier, the trio formed by singer/drummer Pierre-Luc Gratton, guitarist/keyboardist Tristan Lacombe and bassist Sébastien Provençal offers us heavy psychedelic rock embellished with the feverish rhythms of funk, the philosophy of jazz, boundless energy emanating from the beginnings of punk and a marked love for minor scales that recalls the ancestry of heavy metal. With Électrons libre du québec, Population II once again demonstrate a keen sense of composition and an undeniable mastery of its instruments. As complex as it is instantly memorable, it is an album on which reigns a precarious and surprising balance that the group manages to maintain with ease.
