Digital Booklet
“[The Arilds] play with apt alacrity, communicating equally both the intelligence and the vibrancy of Horneman's music, not to mention the sparkle of Hamerik's, in a persuasive fashion.” - MusicWeb International “If you love the string quartets of Mendelssohn, you’ll be instantly smitten by Horneman’s G-Minor Quartet... The playing on this disc is technically expert and musically attuned to these lovely works, which, if nothing else, are tuneful, harmonically pleasing to the ear, and brimming with the dramatically urgent, rapid, running passages that are so common a feature in Mendelssohn’s quartets.” - Jerry Dubins, Fanfare The Arild String Quartet—comprised of leading musicians from the Royal Danish Orchestra—present a release of rarely heard 19th-century Danish music by the cousins C.F.E. Horneman and Asger Hamerik. These composers' careers led them in rather different directions—Horneman to Germany and Hamerik to Paris and the US—but their works here do share a lyricism that makes them thoroughly listenable. Hamerik's Quartetto in A Minor is bookended by Horneman's String Quartets Nos. 1 and 2, all of which are expertly performed by the Arild players.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
