“Noonan approaches postmodern jazz and world music from the angle of self-discovery ... (he) manages to make his pieces speak coherently, in a unified voice.”
- The New York Times
"Close listening reveals that Sean Noonan and Brewed by Noon are onto something special. This is one of those discs that needs to be encountered without preconceptions or expectations so that the wild, untamed, musical peroration waltzing with garden variety, hothouse sonic paranoia can be heard sans prejudice."
- Audiophile Audition
Drummer Sean Noonan and his group Brewed by Noon present this wildly ambitious and idiosyncratic concept album blending passionate vocals and time-honoured lyrics from Ireland, Mali and Senegal with the raw power of jamming jazz-rock guitars, shapeshifting improv viola, dense soundscapes, bass and drum grooves and complex, dancing polyrhythms. The album's title Boxing Dreams is a metaphor suggesting how Noonan wrestled its elements and his own restless subconscious into a personal artistic vision. A major aspect of this 2008 album is the musical adaptation of diverse storytelling, folklore and postmodern jazz, each song capturing a different dreamed or imagined story.
